Last night saw an evening of British television, on ITV at least, given over to the National Movie Awards. We don't think it's going out on much of a limb to suggest that these don't hold quite the same sway as the Oscars, with some luminaries as Lewis Hamilton and Shirley Bassey presenting the awards. But they did actually manage to come up with some deserving recipients this time around.
That said, it was another excuse to buff up The King's Speech on the week it just happens to be out on DVD in the UK. And there was a coincidental Screen Icon gong given to Johnny Depp, too, a week before the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie hits our screens. Cynical? Not us.
